Overview

We are looking for an ambitious, business driven person who will accelerate our transition from a light data platform to an enterprise data platform by 2027. This will allow Werfen to explore complex use cases and make a real impact in the health care and diagnostics industry as well as democratize data to thousands of employees around the world.

The scope of the data platform spans from technology centers, commercial operations, supply chain, corporate functions and sales affiliates.

The data platform and governance manager is expected to lead an outsourced data platform team, leverage those resources and become the go-to person for technology and data governance questions.

The data platform will be handled as a digital product with specific objectives and key results, with incremental improvements based on business needs, new technology trends and non-functional requirements.

The data governance responsibility entails creating the right framework and processes to empower data owners and ensure that data is treated as a valuable and secure asset, in collaboration with other members of the team.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overall responsibility for development and operation of the data platform, including periodic reviews of SLAs with outsourcing partners, security audits, and platform health metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create and communicate a global roadmap for the enterprise data platform, including AWS compute, Data Lake, cloud data catalog, visualization tools, AI/ML platforms, and code-first cloud components.
  • Lead the outsourced data platform team by prioritizing the product backlog based on resource availability and cross-functional stakeholder needs.
  • Establish governance structures and processes to manage diverse stakeholders' interests in the data platform.
  • Document the architecture and operational processes of the data platform.
  • Define and implement a global data governance strategy, including:
  • Designing and planning an organization-wide data governance framework
  • Establishing data quality standards and policies in collaboration with analytics teams
  • Automating and auditing governance policies
  • Ensuring GDPR and other regulatory compliance
  • Managing processes related to data access, lifecycle, and quality

  • External: Outsourced platform providers, cloud service partners (e.g., AWS)

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

  • Experience as a product owner or leader of complex data products
  • Experience managing technical teams or outsourced services
  • Expertise in cloud-based data and analytics stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Hands-on knowledge of data platforms and analytics tools
  • Experience implementing data governance policies in corporate environments

 

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies
  • Structured and focused problem-solving approach
  • Ability to prioritize tasks across multiple departments
  • Proficiency in English

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 30 days annually (mainly USA and Europe)
