Our North American Commercial Operations, as well as our Headquarters and Technology Center for Hemostasis and Acute Care Diagnostics, are based in Bedford, MA.  Our Headquarters and Technology Center for Autoimmunity Diagnostics is based in San Diego, CA.  Additionally, our Technology Center for Hemostasis and Blood Gas Reagents is in Orangeburg, NY, and our Technology Center for Whole Blood Hemostasis is in San Diego, CA

 

Position Summary

 

This position reports to the Assistant Financial Controller.  Responsible for overseeing and managing payroll functions including the processing of the bi-weekly payroll, maintaining accurate employee profiles at Werfen and through ADP.  Due to growth in the organization, may manage multiple payrolls within multiple Werfen companies. This position will also be responsible for managing the payroll staff, developing and implementing appropriate payroll policies and procedures, and ensuring that these policies comply with local, state and federal regulations. This position will be expected to develop strong relationships with Human Resources and General Ledger staffs.

 

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manages all payroll activities for Werfen US including processing the bi-weekly payroll, maintaining employee profiles at Werfen and ADP and balancing year-end reports and employee records for preparation of W-2 statements.
  • Manages and trains payroll staff on payroll related processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Assures that tax related withholdings are correct, reflect current rates and comply with government regulations via taxable and non-taxable benefits; attends seminars as necessary to keep current in this area.
  • Assures that all non-tax related withholding information particularly 401 (K) plans, medical/dental programs and auto/home insurance are correct and reflect company policies; arranges for vendor payments where appropriate.
  • Confirms that payroll entries in the general ledger are accurate by reviewing and correcting the monthly ADP interface to SAP and reconciling payroll related accounts such as relocation advances/loans, benefit Withholdings, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining the time and attendance system.
  • Establishes performance goals for staff, develops, and reports on monthly statistics identifying progress toward these goals.
  • Strategically re-engineers’ processes and procedures to reduce time/cost/rework and/or increase accuracy/quality.
  • Must be able to function as backup for the payroll team
  • Researches, analyzes, and resolves complex matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Handles or assists with audit

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience
    • Minimum five years of recent payroll experience with at least two years as a Payroll Manager managing staff. 
    • Experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now or PayExpert payroll applications.
    • Thorough knowledge of US payroll tax laws for a multistate employer.
    • International payroll experience is desirable
    • Has ADP payroll training and can act as ADP trainer
