Our North American Commercial Operations, as well as our Headquarters and Technology Center for Hemostasis and Acute Care Diagnostics, are based in Bedford, MA.  Our Headquarters and Technology Center for Autoimmunity Diagnostics is based in San Diego, CA. Additionally, our Technology Center for Hemostasis and Blood Gas Reagents is in Orangeburg, NY, and our Technology Center for Whole Blood Hemostasis is in San Diego, CA.

 

Overview:

 

Werfen’s San Diego Internship Program is a 10-week, full-time, paid assignment that takes place over the course of the summer and is open to undergraduate students who are currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university. 

 

The Internship program has been designed to allow students to learn through hands on experience, providing an opportunity to blend textbook knowledge with practical experience.  Students will contribute to the development of new or improved medical diagnostic tests and will be given the opportunity to work cross functionally with other departments to maximize their learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide general support to Manufacturing engineers, taking on tasks that contribute to the successful execution of projects
  • Assist with writing revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including writing change orders and deviations.
  • Assist in failure analysis, troubleshooting, rework/repair of non-conforming manufactured product to help determine root cause.
  • Read schematics, assembly drawings, data sheets, and process sheets to perform testing, build fixtures and trouble-shoot equipment.
  • Assist with execution of validation, engineering study, and nonproduct software protocols, and assist with writing reports.
  • Perform tests and gather data for validation activities and engineering studies, utilizing various types of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with the company’s quality system requirements through training and adherence to policies, procedures and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Networking/Key relationships

  • Interact daily with other manufacturing engineers to assist with projects, manufacturing issues, etc.
  • Occasionally work with the quality team (incoming and bio quality control, engineers, quality records, etc) to resolve nonconformances, and to maintain/improve documents
  • Work often with the production line mechanics, operators, leads, supervisors, etc to ensure production line is running efficiently

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Graduate engineering program with a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with Solidworks (preferred, not required).
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with the Company’s quality system requirements through training and adherence to policies, procedures and processes.
