Overview

The Communications Manager for Spain & Portugal is responsible for implementing the global communications strategy at the regional level, ensuring alignment with the company’s corporate narrative, reputation priorities and brand positioning.

This role leads the planning and execution of internal and external communications, events, and digital presence across Spain and Portugal, working closely with the Global Communications team to ensure message consistency and strategic alignment.

The position collaborates with Business Units and local leadership to translate global priorities into impactful communication initiatives that strengthen brand visibility, stakeholder engagement, and employee alignment in the Iberian market.

The role reports to the Director, Global Communications & Corporate Affairs, with a dotted line to the General Manager Spain & Portugal and is based in Barcelona, Spain.

 

 

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Implement the global communications strategy in Spain and Portugal, ensuring alignment with corporate messaging and business priorities.
  • Translate global communication priorities into relevant local communication plans and initiatives.
  • Manage internal and external communications across Spain and Portugal, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with global corporate messaging.
  • Collaborate with Global Communications to support corporate campaigns, leadership communications, and reputation-building initiatives.
  • Plan and execute local communication initiatives, campaigns, and events that support commercial priorities.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of congresses, corporate events, and stakeholder engagement activities in the Iberian region.
  • Oversee the management of local digital channels, including websites and social media platforms, ensuring alignment with corporate brand and content strategy.
  • Support local leadership with communication materials, presentations, and messaging aligned with global narratives.
  • Monitor communication impact and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve local communication initiatives.
  • Ensure brand consistency and compliance with corporate communication guidelines across all regional materials and activities.

Networking/Key relationships

Internal

  • Director, Global Communications & Corporate Affairs – Strategic alignment and coordination of communication priorities.
  • Global Communications team – Collaboration on campaigns, messaging, and corporate initiatives.
  • Iberia General Manager – Alignment of communication initiatives with regional business priorities.
  • Business Units and commercial Operations teams – Coordination of communication activities supporting business objectives.

External

  • Medical societies, hospitals, and healthcare institutions in Spain and Portugal.
  • Communication agencies and external partners supporting local initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Life Sciences, or related fields; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience within communications and events in a similar organisation would be a strong advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge of marketing and communications policies and processes.
  • Language fluency: Fluent in English; Portuguese is a plus.
