Job Summary
The Business Unit Manager (BUM) HITS is responsible for the strategic, operational and financial leadership of the Healthcare IT Solutions business unit, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability and market leadership in alignment with Werfen’s strategic priorities.
Through the management of a highly specialized, multidisciplinary team, the role leads the development, deployment and evolution of Werfen’s Healthcare IT solutions, supporting the full digitalization of laboratory and hospital workflows and maximizing value for customers, stakeholders and the organization.
The role combines strong strategic vision, business acumen and people leadership, working closely with sales, service, contracting, logistics, global teams and external partners to drive innovation, customer satisfaction and long-term impact in the IVD and digital health ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
Business & Strategy:
- Define and lead the Business Unit strategy and objectives, ensuring alignment with Werfen’s global and local strategic plans.
- Develop, validate and execute a successful Business Unit model, driving revenue growth, profitability and sustainable market expansion.
- Identify new business opportunities, emerging technologies and market trends to support innovation and competitiveness.
- Participate in innovation forums and cross-functional initiatives that ensure the continuous evolution of the HITS portfolio.
Financial & Performance Management
- Own and manage the Business Unit budget (P&L), in line with the company’s three-year strategic plans and finance guidelines.
- Co-responsible for budget achievement, including sales, margins, investments (OI), marketing expenditures and operational costs.
- Supervise profitability analysis (ZGPs, customer and project profitability), proposing and implementing corrective actions when needed.
- Monitor and control investments, tenders (technical and commercial) and complex projects to maximize value creation.
Marketing, Portfolio & Market Access
- Define and oversee marketing and go-to-market activities: congresses, workshops, product launches, scientific sessions and customer events.
- Ensure strong coordination with Sales and Account Managers to define area objectives and action plans aligned with business priorities
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Actively engage with healthcare institutions, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and key stakeholders, building strong, trusted partnerships.
- Create and nurture a strategic network within the healthcare IT ecosystem, understanding customer challenges and supporting their digital transformation journeys.
- Represent Werfen’s values, culture and reputation, reinforcing the differentiation and value of its IT solutions and innovation approach.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration, accountability and an agile mindset.
- Select, develop and retain talent within the Business Unit, ensuring appropriate onboarding, training, performance management and career development.
- Distribute responsibilities clearly, plan meetings, ensure effective communication and safeguard continuous support to the sales network.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, excellence, innovation and teamwork, recognizing contributions and results.
Governance, Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure compliance with Werfen’s Ethics Code, quality systems, regulatory, privacy and transparency policies at local and EU level.
- Actively promote cross-collaboration with peers and teams at local, regional and European level to maximize synergies and resource utilization.
- Guarantee alignment of team behaviors and external interactions with Werfen’s ethical standards and corporate image.

Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Science, Bioinformatics or related discipline
- Additional education in Business Administration, Marketing or MBA is a strong asset
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in Healthcare IT, digital health, LIS/HIS or medical technology environments
- Proven experience in Business Unit management, strategic marketing or portfolio leadership
- Demonstrated success in managing P&L, budgets, investments and complex projects
- Solid experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams in matrix organizations
- Experience with tenders, market access, customer negotiations and key account environments
Technical & Business Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Healthcare IT solutions, digital ecosystems and laboratory workflows
- Solid knowledge of healthcare markets, compliance, regulatory and quality systems
- Business analytics, budgeting and financial management skills
- Understanding of emerging technologies, data analytics and innovation drivers in healthcare
Languages
- Spanish: Native
- English: Fluent
- Additional European languages (e.g. Portuguese) are a plus

People Manager Accountabilities:
Effectively carries out the expectations of Werfen People Managers as defined in Werfen’s Role of the Manager program. Among others this includes maintaining regular, at minimum once a month, and transparent communication with the team through effective use of formal one-on-one meetings with direct reports and team meets. Managing performance issues and conflict proactively; uses judgement in consulting with department leadership and Human Resources. Responsibility for the team´s compliance in terms of training, and fulfilment of their tasks and objectives as well as onboarding of new employees and development of the existing team.
