Overview

We are looking for a Biologics Procurement Specialist manages the Reagent Donor Program including developing donor schedules to meet production schedule needs and communicating with donors and collection facilities to ensure blood collected is received in a timely manner. As a Biologics Procurement Specialist, is responsible for scheduling donors to meet Werfen's survey needs, managing donors samples sent for external testing and assist internal customers with red cell requests.   If you’ve got the necessary skills and experience to excel in this position, we want to hear from you. Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for developing annual and ad hoc schedules for red cell donors to ensure blood supply is consistent with schedule requirements and cycle commitments.
  • Responsible for placing new donors on a schedule that meets production needs.
  • Responsible for monitoring shipping of donor units in compliance with Supply Agreements with donor centers.
  • Assist with log in of red cells and platelets used for manufacturing.
  • Performing second verification of blood units log-in entries in the BDMS system to ensure that the information is properly entered prior to continuing with the additional processing steps.
  • Review product specifications and release product for further manufacturing.
  • Participate in process improvements.
  • Serve as backup to Biologics Sourcing Specialist IIa. Coordinate collection of blood for other depts and experimental lots/ protocolsb. Edit answer packets and case studies for in-house educational productsc. Assist with allocation of donor units to products in BDMS
  • Prepare samples for send out testing or transfer to other Immucor sites
  • Assist with revisions of department documents.
  • Assists supervisor to ensure Sourcing procurement department activities are performed according to department procedures and completed within procedure or department-defined timeframes.
  • Assist with investigations into complaints, deviations and support key projects driven by either process improvement or R&D. 
  • Ensures department records are legible and are stored according to procedure/work-instruction-defined protocols and time frames.
  • Follow applicable laboratory OSHA regulations with respect to chemical hazards, blood-borne pathogens, etc.
  • Understands FDA and ISO standards applicable to the department and consequences of nonconformance.
  • Meets achievement levels established for competency evaluations.
  • Understands source, composition and characteristics of products and associated chemical and biosafety hazards.
  • Interacts cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors or managers of other departments and receives direction well from superiors.
  • Maintains good department morale and employee motivation.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Bachelors degree required with emphasis in Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry.
  • Some Blood banking experience, preferred
  • Must be available to work irregular hours including weekends and overtime as necessary to meet company requirements and production demands. May be required to cover additional responsibilities and/or provide consultation and/or assistance in “off-hours”.
  • Experience with extended red cell antigens and their characteristics
  • Proficient in Excel, SharePoint and Outlook
  • Experience in providing customer service support
